Family Storytelling Across Generations

Family Storytelling Across Generations

Dr. Jody Koenig Kellas

Willa Cather Professor and Department Chair, Department of Communication Studies, University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Successfully preserving wealth across generations is not easy, but transferring values can be even more challenging. Communication determines how we make sense out of life together. The stories we tell to and about ourselves construct who we are. With increased longevity, intergenerational family storytelling has increased importance in shaping family identity.

In this edition of the WiseLife® Speaker Series, we learn more about the link between family storytelling, well-being, and relational health.

Jody Koenig Kellas, Ph.D. is the founder and director of Narrative Nebraska, a research lab dedicated to understanding the ways in which narratives and storytelling can enhance individuals' and families' health and well-being. Dr. Jody Koenig Kellas currently serves as Willa Cather Professor and department chair of Communication Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
