Managing a Global Pandemic Together

TRANSCRIPT AVAILABLE

The first ever videoconference edition of Accredited’s WiseLife™ Speaker Series provided the opportunity to hear directly from a leading authority on the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Andy Slavitt, former head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, joined Accredited CEO Ross Levin to discuss how we can manage this global pandemic together.

You can see a recording of their discussion above, and access a transcript of their conversation here.

There has been an onslaught of news since the outbreak of COVID-19 raising questions about how it compares to previous pandemics, the impact on our physical and emotional health, and the severity of long-term economic impacts. With varying levels of information being communicated through media channels, Andy relays that given the speculation surrounding a relatively new virus nobody knows much about, the most honest answer to nearly every question is, “I don’t know.”

Andy walks us through the biggest concerns with COVID-19, including the fact none of us have immunity to this novel virus and that the way it spreads makes it very difficult to manage. Andy validates the importance of “Staying at Home” and talks about how social distancing, handwashing, and wearing masks has shown a decrease in the contact rate. Andy covers burning questions about the status of vaccines, how many tests need to be available to be effective, and whether the current stimulus package is enough to support the economy.

Working through all the hopes, emotions, and fears this pandemic has caused, we think this is a relevant and informative presentation you will find valuable.
